Flash Flood Warning issued August 28 at 5:40AM CDT until August 28 at 9:00AM CDT by NWS Wichita KS
AREAS AFFECTED: Sumner, KS
DESCRIPTION: At 540 AM CDT, Radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 5 inches of rain have fallen overnight. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area through this morning. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that may experience flash flooding include... Wellington, Belle Plaine, Oxford, Wellington Airport and Riverdale. This includes Interstate 35 between mile markers 14 and 29. At 5:10 AM CDT, dispatch reported water over Interstate 35 northeast of Wellington between mile markers 19 and 21.
INSTRUCTION: Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don't drown. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.

A contrail is an artificial cloud, created by the passing of an
aircraft.
Contrails form because water vapor in the exhaust of aircraft engines is suspended
in the air under certain temperatures and humidity conditions. These contrails
are called exhaust contrails.
Another type of contrail can form due to a temporary reduction in air pressure
moving over the plane's surface, causing condensation.
These are called aerodynamic contrails.
When you can see your breath on a cold day, it is also because of condensation.
The reason contrails last longer than the condensation from your breath is
because the water in contrails freezes into ice particles.

Cumulus clouds are fluffy and textured with rounded tops, and
may have flat bottoms. The border of a cumulus cloud
is clearly defined, and can have the appearance of cotton or cauliflower.
Cumulus clouds form at low altitudes (rarely above 2 km) but can grow very tall,
becoming cumulus congestus and possibly the even taller cumulonimbus clouds.
When cumulus clouds become taller, they have a greater chance of producing precipitation.
